Dental Implants: The Basics
Dental implants resemble screws. They are threaded titanium posts designed to penetrate the bone and facilitate fusion. Placing dental implants traditionally requires two surgeries, with several months of healing time in between. During the first surgery, Dr. Herskovits' trusted oral surgeon will place one or more titanium implant posts in your jawbone. Your bone will fuse to the implants over the next three to six months in a process called osseointegration. When healing is complete, you will undergo a second surgery in which small abutment pieces, made of metal or zirconia, will be attached to the tops of the implants. Your final restoration will attach to these pieces.
Choosing the Right Dental Implants
Every patient has different needs. Some patients have implants placed immediately following tooth extraction. Some patients need temporary restorations placed as soon as their implants are placed. Each patient has different jawbone density. Both Biocare® and MIS® implants are available in a variety of diameters, lengths, and threading configurations to match the patient's bone density and accommodate different restorations. For example, an implant used to restore a lost anterior (front) tooth can be smaller than an implant used to restore several consecutive back teeth. Before your surgery, Dr. Herskovits will use digital CT scanning technology and other sophisticated tools to determine the necessary implant dimensions to meet your unique needs.
At Brooklyn Smile, we provide completely personalized treatment to protect your oral health and provide a stunning smile. We work with a board-certified oral surgeon who is a highly respected expert in his field. In fact, our oral surgeon teaches implant dentistry at a dental college. He will carefully examine your jawbone to determine the right placement for your implant posts. If you have a compromised bone structure, he can also perform bone grafting. Thanks to our precise imaging technology and our implant specialist’s superior skill, we can also provide extraction, bone grafting, and implant placement in a single day. Few practices can provide this type of convenience and personalization under one roof. We also offer several types of sedation, and Dr. Herskovits will help you select the right one for your health, physical comfort, and peace of mind.
At Brooklyn Smile, we treat you the way we would want to be treated. That means providing you with plenty of options and individualized, compassionate care. To learn more about your implant options, schedule a consultation with Dr. Herskovits today.
