Dr. Gary Herskovits is continuously implementing the latest technology in dental care, which is why we are able to provide same-day crowns at our Brooklyn, NY, office. We can restore damaged teeth with durable, high quality porcelain crowns in just one office visit, so you can experience immediate results. Same-day crowns are often combined with root canal therapy and can be used to effectively repair a tooth that is too damaged for a tooth-colored filling. With extensive experience in cosmetic and restorative dentistry, Dr. Herskovits can help patients restore the structural integrity of their smile, while providing realistic, long-lasting restorations.
Are You a Candidate?
Dental crowns are generally recommended for patients with:
- Cracked or fractured teeth
- Severely decayed teeth
- Teeth damaged from grinding or jaw clenching
- Severe dental staining or discoloration
- Misshapen teeth
During your appointment, Dr. Herskovits will examine the structure of your smile to determine whether you are eligible for a dental crown.
Traditional Crown vs. Same-Day Crown
A traditional dental crown is generally made from metal, porcelain, or a combination of the two, and is fabricated at an offsite dental lab. In most cases, a traditional restoration requires at least two office visits: one for preparation and impressions of the tooth, and the second for dental crown placement. As manufacture normally takes about two weeks, your doctor may provide you with a temporary dental crown while you await your final restoration. The average lifespan of a traditional crown is about 10 years.
Same-day crowns streamline the tooth preparation, impression, and crown design into one appointment.
Because of our onsite technology, same-day crowns streamline the tooth preparation, impression, and crown design into one appointment. Traditional impressions can be messy and uncomfortable, but with advanced imaging, Dr. Herskovits can perform digital impressions in a matter of minutes. At Brooklyn Smile, we understand your time is important, which is why we are proud to offer this technology for our patients. With the proper care, same-day crowns can last up to 15 years.
What to Expect During Your Same-Day Crown Procedure
Before your procedure, Dr. Herskovits will numb the tooth and surrounding tissue with a local anesthetic. He can also provide additional sedation depending upon your needs. Once you are comfortable, he will prepare the tooth by thoroughly cleaning it and removing any decay. He will then reshape the enamel in preparation for your dental crown.
Next, Dr. Herskovits can take digital images of your smile and immediately upload them to a computerized milling machine. Using this technology, Dr. Herskovits can manipulate the images to create an exact replica of your teeth. The machine can use this mold to manufacture a customized dental crown that fits seamlessly in your smile. Once Dr. Herskovits is satisfied with the mold, the machine will sculpt your crown from a block of porcelain that is tinted to blend with the natural shade of your tooth.
Once the crown is ready, Dr. Herskovits will check the fit and make any necessary changes. He can then bond the crown to your tooth and polish your smile to add the finishing touches.
